The SWHJFD provides a positive direction for youth in our small community of Southwest Harbor, Maine.

Established 1980

Founded in 1980 by local teenagers and the Fire Department, the Explorers, ages 9 to 13, and the Juniors, ages 14 to 17, learn the importance of being fire safe and the practices used by the fire service to provide the community a volunteer though professional fire department.

The program has proven that kids can grow with responsible and civic minds, becoming fire department officers and future leaders.
